Raindrops on roses

June 2024

Wow, June is nearly over (not so you’d notice - thanks, weather gods) and I realise I haven’t put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard.

Someone who knew a thing or two about putting their thoughts on paper once said

"The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men

Gang aft agley"

and he was right.  I haven’t been as present online as I intended because life has had other things for me to attend to.  None of us has a crystal ball and all sorts of things can crop up unexpectedly and throw a spanner in the works. Which got me wondering - what happens if things go awry on your big day?

I’m thinking here about our less than predictable weather.  We'd all love blue skies and sunshine, but do you have a plan B if the heavens open? Here are a few things to consider.

If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony and/or reception, does the venue have an alternative space undercover?  Are they happy to manage a change of plan at short notice?  It’s always worth discussing a wild weather contingency plan.

Have you thought about providing brollies or blankets for your guests?  https://www.somethingborrowed.scot/ have a selection of cosy blankets and wedding umbrellas available for hire (and - bonus - slippers too for those tired feet!).

There’s always an outside chance that your wedding day could be an absolute scorcher.  Perhaps you’re getting married somewhere where hot, sunny weather is the norm, or you might just strike it lucky right here in Scotland.  It might be worth considering foldable fans as an alternative wedding favour, and why not an extra special one for the bride?

Of course, you might be like me and be quite happy to be outdoors in the rain. In which case, custom wedding wellies might be just the ticket.

Come rain or shine, a little planning can go a long way towards making sure your day doesn’t suffer from the unpredictable elements.

(PS The weather never stopped anyone from enjoying cake, so do get in touch to chat to us about planning your dream wedding cake.)
